With the news that Snap reported lower daily active users (DAU) than expected, (plunging shares by 17% overnight) chief exec Evan Spiegel says analysts should instead look at time spent in the app and “how much advertisers were spending to reach each of them”.

What are the right metrics to measure the success of a relatively new startup?

While I agree it is difficult to provide a workable attribution model, should we not concentrate on if these networks actually drive sales and revenue?

Brand awareness is great but it doesn’t pay your wages in the long run.
